I WRITE ADS. I WRITE SONGS. I RIGHT WRONGS.

I’d hire me!
— Neil Murchison, the guy in the photo

I'm a Senior Copywriter/Creative director with decades of experience who always delivers the pizzas. I mean goods. Whether it's a multifaceted campaign, an evocative TV spot, a humorous radio commercial, or even an intrusive (yet somehow intriguing) banner ad.

So, how'd I get here? Well, I moved to Toronto from Ottawa over 25 years ago to give this advertising thing a go. My first 6 months were spent selling fake watches at the corner of Bay and Bloor. Yeah, that guy.

Eventually I was hired as a copywriter. Sadly, it coincided with the end of the three martini lunch and out of control budgets. Oh, well. Throughout the years I've worked at agencies such as BBDO, Publicis•SMW, Cossette and Saffer. Worked on projects for Fujifilm, Chrysler, Pepsi, ClubLink, Hoechst Marion Roussel, Kraft, Wal-Mart, Bayer, McDonald's, Molson Coors, Scotiabank, RBC, Manulife Financial, etc. Freelanced for a lot of agencies and direct clients. Traveled to such exotic locales as Miami, Cape Town, Calgary and Guelph*. Tried to sell a TV show to Hollywood producers. And learned that big ideas don't require big budgets. Although, it's always nice.

A lot of the work I’ve done has had measurable results. For instance, I helped develop a digital video and social campaign for Fujifilm that inspired people to print their photos so they could preserve their memories forever. Within two months of launch of fujifilmprintlife.ca, customer engagement exceeded the industry benchmark by 80%, and print volume grew between 20-30%. The campaign won Campaign of the Year and Best Film & Video at the 2018 North American Excellence Awards. This made-in-Canada endeavor is now in the midst of becoming a global movement.

I've also been involved in the music industry as a songwriter, guitarist, booking agent, manager, tour manager, driver, roadie and fan. In my spare time I think up new swear words. I once owned a plant.

Now you know.

* May not exactly qualify as exotic.
